I have been an avid bass tournament fisherman for over 25 years. I have fished at all levels, from the B.A.S.S. Tour to regional circuits. In addition, I was a retail fishing tackle dealer for nearly 7 years, in which time I fished many reels. When asked to field test the Ardent XS Baitcasting reel in 2004, I can honestly say I gave them one hell of a test! Having qualified for the B.A.S.S. Opens, Everstart Series, and BFL regional over the past year and a half. I fished over 200 days, in 7 different states, and all types of conditions with Ardent XS reels. Several key features became apparent during use of the reels. The extra distance and castability was vital for many of my fishing techniques. I developed a great confidence while "Carolina Rigging" and "Drop Shoting" in clear water situations, due to the reel’s superior drag! While fishing deep crank baits, I again enjoyed the longer casts, but was surprised by the power and comfort of doing so for a 6 day event. The XS reel performed in all situations, from braided line to light line. I'm still fishing those first production models, and they are still performing great! I’ve fished with many different types of reels over my lifetime and when it comes to Ardent reels, all I can say is WOW! They are without a doubt the smoothest, most dependable reels I’ve ever wrapped my hands around. When it comes to smooth casting, the more stainless steel ball bearings the better – and the Ardent XS reel has 10! Equally important to me is its low-profile design and light weight (less than 9 ounces), which I believe combine to give me a competitive edge by reducing the wear and tear on my arm over the course of a long day on the water. With an Ardent reel, I end a day of fishing as strongly as I started. I just can’t say enough good things about Ardent – I love this reel!

I have used the Reel Butter Bearing Lube since it has come out and it is fantastic. I have used several brands and none could hold a candle to it.
